Training during exams

Posted on May 26, 2008

You might be thinking well as a student it’s hard enough to get up during this time of year to study, now you still have to get up to go out and actually exercise at the gym! Well the answer to that question is YES, it is way more beneficial now than one would think. When student’s think of winter the first thing that is suppose to come to mind should be exams, and what most students do round about now is setup a timetable for what will be done in which order and break times and length (well you are suppose to), totally excluding physical activity. Look at it this way, after studying so much your brain needs a beak too, your brain is not on a break when you’re not looking at your books. The best way to ensure that your brain like your body gets a well deserved break, TSG – TUKS STUDENT GYM.

Why TSG, well regular exercise is linked to physical & mental benefits but of more importance here is the release of euphoria which occurs during exercise, aka the “feel good brain chemical”. Once you feel good your motivation levels increase and like a math equation that in turn results in an energy levels & resilience at the end of the day, this is important because all these elements together allow a person to cope more with stress that might otherwise overwhelm them.

So clearly it is evident that TSG is not only there for those who want to build & maintain healthy muscle, bones and joints, but also to keep you mentally fit and ready to tackle those exams.

Yes exercise can decrease risk of chronic disease and also decrease risk of cardiovascular and other metabolic diseases, most people only know of the anatomical benefits such as, regular exercise: “strengthens your heat & lungs, helps manage your weigh, decrease risk of colon & breast cancer and other various types of other cancers to mention a few, not knowing that regular exercise can boost brain function, and that inactive people are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s than very active people, and please don’t focus on the part saying very active, if you’re in TSG three times per week you are classified as “very active”.

Now that you know why you should be in the gym in winter, let us balance the equation, winning formula: Vitamin-C + TSG = THE BEST YOU CAN BE. Why vitamin-C, because like exercise it is a requirement of the body more during winter than any other time of the year, not saying that it is not important during other seasons as well. Like spring is linked to flowers winter is linked to colds & flu, and this is not the only reason vitamin-C is important. A deficiency hereof can lead to,   Anemia, bleeding gums, and poor wound healing and again like exercise vitamin-C, ¯ risk of breast, colon, cervix and other various types of cancer.

The best way forward is to follow the winning formula combined with the motto of the month; time management + fixed yet balanced schedule. Setup a time table for studies; add adequate break sessions which can be training session where you follow an exercise program. People who exercise eat healthier even when not following a diet plan- so you can add a few more fruits-veggies or drink/s which can help your body fight off colds & flu like symptoms.
