Why do you do it pt.2?

Posted on September 03, 2009

What was the reason you decided to join this sweaty place full of male AND female egos? What drove you to the land of reps, sets and muscle stiffness? Some say it’s not where you’re from its where you’re at! Now what’s left is the reason for the repetition of these sessions. Why do you continuously take a break from the gym, then return and start all over again?

Some do it for a course, on a course, to test their human capabilities to the fullest. I mean every human action is to be superior, whether it was driven by the hunger for power, image maintenance and a healthy lifestyle or readdressing past mistakes or by coincidence. You do not know why you began doing it but foresee what will happen if you do not continue doing it. If someone asked you to give 20 solid reasons why you do it you would be able to give 20 and substantiate those reasons? Do I have the right to say that you are caught in a vicious cycle of a routine filled with reps and sets?  It’s an addiction, what more is there?

Yet the drive, the pull factor that keeps you in the gym for two hours a day four times per week is so strong. Although it seems that you are doing it because of the contagious theory which states that behavior is reinforced, made expectable and repeated when it’s conducted in a group regardless of there being action positive or negative. Not all men are not equal though; because one person does it and gets a certain outcome does not mean you will get a similar result. So if your routine is driven by that “I want to be like him” then maybe you need to reassess, why do you do it?

But you command respect now, maybe this is why you keep on doing it. I mean old school mates and new gym members ask you for some training advice now and your physique isn’t too bad either. I mean, you are on course for a longer life if you continue doing it.
