Pack away that Mayhem

Posted on October 01, 2009

Commercial fitness centres are to blame for this rotten and lazy culture. More commercial fitness centres have allowed this to occur with the paradigm that members pay high gym fees. In order to address this, commercial fitness centres should emulate the fathers of this “Gym thing”

The fathers of this “Gym thing” are the worn-out old school Gymnasium located in the deteriorated old suburbs. This Old Gymnasium is where we as new age Gymnasium should copy a culture of discipline from. This is where, when you do not pack away a 2,5kg weight plate, you get reprimanded, asked to leave or worst case scenario tossed out. Yes, Mr Manager you might get threats of membership discontinuation but a reasonable man will not leave your Gym for that reason. If he does then you are better of without him because he is not reasonable man. And it does not matter how much the man pays to gym at your Gymnasium.

One might say the methods used on paying clients at Old-school Gymnasiums are harsh, primitive, embarrassing and do not make business sense, especially if done in the public eye. The fact is the human pattern that led to the problem was taught in the public eye. One member sees another not packing away then……… it becomes ideology then it becomes acceptable behaviour.   In order to break the pattern word-of mouth in the public eye is necessary. Off course there will be some egos that are antagonistic to the movement but make sure the fact of the matter is clear: pack away that mayhem.

Obviously more innovative strategies are also required to address this epidemic. Just know that it did not become an epidemic overnight, it will not be cured tomorrow. But patients, baby steps and persistence are required and more than ever support from senior staff members.
