CONFESSIONS OF A NERD.

Posted on April 01, 2010

It is said that children are meant to learn from adults but what can we teach them? We may be able to show them how depressed we can make ourselves by zombiefying our lifestyles and losing all interest in the myths and legends that shaped our happy and carefree younger days. I don’t think that is what we actually want. Perhaps we should follow their example once in a while and lose ourselves in the pleasures of the things that are not. The life of a nerd is the way to go, the way to escape. A mental vacation so to speak. What is so amazing about the life of the average individual that keeps him or her from escaping into the realms of a computer/card/role playing game or burying the mind in an awesome fictional novel alongside dragons and knights? Nothing.

It is advertised that the path to entertainment is coated with drugs, clubs, alcohol and money but I strongly disagree. There is a huge difference between losing control and losing yourself. To hell with the norm, lose yourselves in a book while taking a hot comforting bath, in a P.C. game within the comforts of your headphones, in a magic the gathering tournament with powerful cards between your fingers, in a role-playing event dressed as a favourite mythical character. Just let go!! The greatest entertainment lies in the confines of our mind.

They call the mentally entertained nerds or geeks and I’m fine with that. If these are the names given to those who can have fun using safe and intelligent methods then I will wear the name proudly.

A life meal is often made with two slices of deadlines and tasks joined together by a not-so pleasant tasting spread of Monday to Friday, a side order of stress and a sprinkle of chaotically busy boredom. I have more than had my fill and need to take a journey. Join me on horseback through the snow – capped forests of Drenan, cities of Dros Delnboch, log cabins coupled with a fireplace and winter soup all while on a quest to assist the Drenai warriors in battle alongside Druss the legend. Or simply sit back, relax and let your mind wander some place a lot more interesting than today. . . . .

Because at the end of the day, it’s better to let go of today and hereafter and wander into the beauty of the way things never were or the way they never will be. . .
