University of Pretoria's senior lecturer Melanie Murcott invited to participate in virtual lecturers at Mercer University Law School Environmental Law Programme

The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria is proud to announce that Ms Melanie Murcott, a senior lecturer in the Department of Public Law, has been selected to participate as a lecturer in the Mercer University Law School Virtual Environmental Law Guest Speaker Programme this semester. 

Ms Murcott will present a guest lecture through a virtual platform. Her lecture will address the right to access to information as a means to further substantive environmental protection and will consider the landmark decision in Company Secretary of Arcelormittal South African and Another v Vaal Environmental Justice Alliance 2015 (1) SA 515 (SCA).

Professor Steve Johnson of Mercer University (Georgia, USA), who has been running the programme for many years, welcomes Ms Murcott’s contribution. Students participating in the programme will be asked to read Ms Murcott’s recent publication titled ’The Procedural Right of Access to Information as a Means of Implementing Environmental Constitutionalism in South Africa' in Implementing Environmental Constitutionalism: Current Global Challenges, a new book edited by two of the leading scholars in environmental constitutionalism: Professors James May and Erin Daly of Delaware Law, Widener University (Wilmington USA).

Ms Murcott is eager to participate in this innovative teaching collaboration opportunity and learn new ways of engaging with students around the globe about important environmental challenges.
