In March 2016 Ms Melanie Murcott, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Law and Administrative Law, at the University of Pretoria’s Department of Public Law, was awarded the prestigious scholarship of the Foundation Study Fund for South African Students (SSF), which is part of a greater organisation, the Zuid-Afrika Huis in Amsterdam, a private institution, that aims to maintain and promote the cultural and academic ties between the Netherlands and South Africa.

The scholarship will fund Melanie’s four month visit later this year to the Department of International and European Public Law at the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands, where she has been granted a fellowship to pursue her doctoral research under the mentorship and guidance of a number of remarkable environmental law scholars, including Professor Kees Bastmeijer, Doctor Arie Trouwborst and Professor Jonathan Verschuuren. These remarkable scholars engage in multi-disciplinary research, including in relation to ecology, sociology, anthropology and economy.  Under their guidance, Melanie hopes to develop her research, knowledge and skills in these disciplines so as to enhance her doctoral thesis.
