THE DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCES
invites you to an online colloquium on

#FeesMustFall @ 5: Reflections on Five Years of Struggle

Speakers:
Mr Buti Manamela, deputy minister of higher education
Ms Malaika wa Azania, author and scholar
Mr Thabo Shingange, postgraduate student and lecturer
Chair: Dr Sithembile Mbete

Over the past five years the conversation of, and on, fallism has largely centred on fees, yet the original movement went well beyond financial issues. Several of these are still pertinent and universities and student formations continue to grapple with questions around decolonisation, inequality and social justice. This colloquium aims to reflect on the past five years – What has been achieved? What remains to be grappled with? Have we prioritised economic rationality at the expense of socio-political transformation? Join us for a discussion and reflection, commemorating five years since the start of the Fallist movement at UP in October 2015.

Date and time: Wednesday 28 October 2020, 16.30 to 18.00

RSVP: https://forms.gle/4uq1DYfEcun7YL1j9 - RSVP by Monday, 26 October 2020

Enquiries: Ms Jane Mampane ([email protected])
