Visiting Scholar Dr. Atwebembeire

The department is pleased to welcome several visiting scholars this year. Dr. John Mushomi Atwebembeire joins us from Makerere University and is the current holder of the Early Career Research Leader Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Future Africa Campus. He holds a PHD in Population Studies from Makerere University, Uganda, MPhil in Demography from the Cairo Demographic Center, Egypt, Post Graduate Diploma in Population and Development from the Cairo Demographic Center, Egypt, Post Graduate Diploma in Demography from the Cairo Demographic Center, Egypt and a BSocSci from Makerere University. He is a faculty member at the Department of Population Studies, School of Statistics and Planning in the College of Business and Management Sciences, Makerere University in Ugandan and research fellow at the Center for Population and Applied Statistics, Makerere University. He is a visiting scholar at the African Migration and Development Policy Centre in Nairobi. Dr. Atwebembeire is the recipient of the Ford Foundation Global Travel and Learning Grant. His research interests include migration governance, urbanization and development, population policy and development. His current research focuses on youth migration in Eastern and Southern Africa and modeling Demographic Dividend prospects for Uganda.
