Opinion makers, politicians, think-tanks, academics, columnists and political commentators often use half-truths to argue a point mainly to serve their personal and political interests because the full truth would weaken their argument. A prime example of such abuse of truth is to be found in the recent debacle around Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir and the International Criminal Court, Al-Bashir’s presence at the African Union Summit in South Africa and his departure from South African soil in defiance of a court order, write Political Sciences Research Associate Ambassador Jan Mutton in the Daily Maverick.
