The Department of Political Sciences invites you to a public seminar on the topic 'For We, the Peoples...': The United Nations at 70 – Revisiting the Charter, to be presented by Professor Henning Melber on 8 May.

In September this year the United Nations (and the world) will commemorate the UN's 70th anniversary. The UN Charter defined a pioneering framework for global governance based on the notions of justice and human rights for all. Since 1945 the world has changed: the number of member states has multiplied almost five-fold and international relations and global governance face different realities and challenges now. But the Charter's core principles and values remain valid. This seminar presents some of the key issues and challenges with regard to the Charter's purpose and invites discussion on the topic.

Henning Melber is Director Emeritus/Senior Advisor of the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation in Uppsala, Sweden and Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Political Sciences, UP.

  • Date: Friday 8 May
