Student Seminar: Electoral violence in Nigeria

The presentation will be based on research into the causes of electoral violence in Nigeria, specifically applying Hoglund’s Analytical Framework to the country’s 2003 and 2007 general elections. The research objective is to test the framework’s usefulness in understanding electoral violence in situations that are not completely conflict ridden.

Aondowase Nyam holds a BSc (Hons), an MSc in political Science and a postgraduate diploma in management (PGDM), all from Benue State University, Makurdi, Nigeria. At present, he is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Political Sciences at the University of Pretoria. His research interests include elections, election related violence, democracy and the process of democratisation.
