The seminar topics were led by the workshop leaders: Professor Ken Wald and Dr Leo Villalón of the University of Florida; Dr Einas Ahmed of the Centre d'Études et Documentation Économiques, Juridiques et Sociales (Sudan); Prof Augustin Loada, Director of the Center for Democratic Governance in Ouagadougou; and Dr Mahaman Tidjani Alou of Université Abdou Moumouni (Niger). The workshop also included professional development sessions that focused on academic publishing, applying for research funding, and methodology.
Outside of the formal seminars, workshop participants met Muslim, Christian and traditional religious leaders, including the Catholic Archbishop of Burkina Faso and the Moro Naba, the traditional leader of the Mossi people, and visited sites of cultural interest.
In all, the 2013 APSA Africa Workshop was a valuable opportunity for building networks between African academics and gaining valuable new theoretical and practical insights into an issue that is becoming increasingly important in the contemporary discourse.
