It is a quarter of a century since South Africa formally established official relations with the People’s Republic of China, opening up a new era of opportunity between two very different countries.
The result has been the evolution of a complex relationship, refracted through the prism of international politics, as well as through shared ideology and commercial opportunism on the one hand, and, on the other, domestic social, political and economic realities. In this webinar three well-known SA-China experts will share reflections on the complexities and paradoxes underlying and infusing the relationship.

Prof Chris Alden (London School of Economics)
Dr Yu-Shan Wu (NIHSS postdoctoral fellow, University of Pretoria)
