Dr Ane Buchner

Dr Ané Büchner completed her undergraduate medical degree and specialist training in Paediatrics at the University of Pretoria. She subsequently subspecialised in Paediatric Oncology and has been practising as a consultant at Steve Biko Academic Hospital since 2015. Her clinical and academic interests centre on paediatric palliative care and oncology. She holds both a Diploma and a Master’s degree in Palliative Medicine from the University of Cape Town. Her postgraduate research focused on the role of palliative chemotherapy in children with incurable cancer. Dr Büchner leads the Hamba Nawe Project, a paediatric palliative care initiative based at Steve Biko Academic Hospital. The project provides integrated, compassionate care for children with life-limiting and complex conditions and offers holistic support to their families through multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient services.
