Dr Julia Kirkby

Dr Julia Kirkby is a recently qualified specialist paediatrician working in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Paediatric Pulmonology division at Steve Biko Academic Hospital. She has a special interest in paediatric intensive care and is set to begin a fellowship in Paediatric Pulmonology in 2025. Her clinical responsibilities include providing evidence-based medical care to critically ill children in the PICU and to both ambulatory and inpatient pulmonology patients. Dr Kirkby is passionate about delivering world-class intensive care in resource-limited settings and is committed to improving outcomes for critically ill children through high-quality, compassionate care. She is the designated contact person for the cystic fibrosis clinic at Steve Biko Academic Hospital and plays an active role in the multidisciplinary care of these patients. In addition to her clinical work, Dr Kirkby serves on the board of the Maletsatsi Foundation, a non-profit organisation supporting vulnerable mothers and newborns.
