ProfessorAmeena Goga is a paediatrician with a PhD from the University of Pretoria (UP), and holds Master’s degrees in Mother and Child Health (Institute of Child Health, London) and Epidemiology (Columbia University, New York). She also holds a Diploma in Allergology from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA), as well as a Certificate and MPhil in Paediatric Pulmonology (CMSA and UP, respectively). In May 2022, she joined the Newborn, Child Health and Development team within the Maternal, Child Health, Adolescent and Ageing Department at the World Health Organisation (WHO). Prior to this, she spent approximately five years as a paediatrician in South Africa’s National Department of Health and worked as a researcher, Deputy Director (Health Systems Research Unit), and Director (HIV and Other Infectious Diseases Research Unit) at the South African Medical Research Council. She was appointed as an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria in September 2014.
