Sports, Studies and marriage: how magnificent Melissa does it all.

When thinking of phenomenal student athletes developed by TuksNetball, Melissa Kotze is one of the names which come to mind. Melissa Kotze, formerly known as Myburgh has been a prominent figure for the UP-Tuks attack force as she takes part in her 3rd Varsity Netball tournament. The much loved 1.89 m blonde figure has proudly represented the University of Pretoria for 7 years, which is hopefully the year the team can get over the finish line and claim Varsity Netball glory.

The 25 years old has been an anchor for the University of Pretoria, has also been a prominent feature for the Gauteng Jaguars in the Brutal fruit netball premier league. Kotze, who also made her national debut for the Proteas in 2011, and is a Masters student with BSportsci (Hons) PGCE qualifications.

When asked about how she maintains a balance between a demanding training and playing schedule with her studies and her personal life, Melissa said: “Well it takes a lot of planning to ensure that I make time for each aspect of my life. I like to live a balanced life and try to maintain it. There are days that I feel that everything is too much but luckily I have great support to help me through these tough days.”

To top it all off, She will celebrate her one year wedding anniversary  to Altus Kotze next month, and is enjoying married life. “I don’t know what the future holds for me in netball but at the moment I would like to enjoy every moment that I have on court and make the best of every opportunity.  Personally, I would like to start a family in the near future, but I am enjoying life and living life to the fullest.” she said.

Having participated in 2 previous Varsity Netball tournaments, she has experienced the benefits of the tournament first hand. “I think that Varsity Netball has given students the opportunity to grow on a level that helps them reach their full potential.” commented Kotze.
