The University of Pretoria (UP) Museums recognise and celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of the institution. Heritage Month is celebrated annually in September. It is celebrated to mark South Africa’s diverse culture and heritage. The government also calls on all South Africans to use Heritage Month to foster greater social cohesion, nation-building, and a shared national identity. The University of Pretoria has unique cultural, art, and heritage collections that contribute to the nation’s shared history.
This month, the UP Museums are running a photo competition to mark Heritage Month and we are inviting all University of Pretoria staff and students to share their cultural heritage views with us and they can walk away with amazing prizes. The UP Museums are inviting all to take a snap in one of our galleries or engage with some of the diverse objects, art, and collections from UP and in no more than 150 words, share their experience. The prize winners will receive complimentary tickets to see the Gold Rhino of Mapungubwe Ballet, by Mzansi Ballet live at the Pretoria State Theatre. The runner-ups will also be awarded many more UP Museum prizes.
Visit the University of Pretoria Museums on the Hatfield campus situated in the Old Arts Building and Old Merensky Building, or browse artworks and sculptures on campus. All are invited to book a Heritage Month tour with Steven Motena at email: [email protected]. Entries close on Wednesday, 20 September 2023 at 16:00, winners will be announced on Thursday, 22 September 2023. The competition is open to all UP students and UP staff.
