A SADC International Conference on Migration and Social Protection within SADC was held at the Polana Serena Hotel in Maputo, Mozambique from 17 to 18 November 2011. The University of Pretoria was represented by Felicia Snyman, a final year LLB student in the Faculty of Law. She presented a paper which was titled 'The Precarious Position of HIV-positive Migrant Workers with Regards to Social Security Law'.
The countries’ representatives acknowledged the HIV-infections in the respective countries and the impact migration has on each country’s economic and social structure. Flows of people across borders have increased for a variety of reasons and nowhere is this more the case than in southern Africa.
According to Felicia, "it was a wonderful opportunity and a great honour for me to represent such a developed and well-known University. The conference was well organised and a definite learning curve".
