The Chair will establish a hub of research and teaching in the field of Banking Law in the African context and supervise postgraduate students in the same field.

Absa’s Dr Neels Erasmus (Head: University Governance and Research/Absa Public Sector CoE/Absa CIBW) and Mr Marthinus van Rensburg (Barclays Africa Group Limited Shared Services General Counsel and an alumnus of UP) recently met with the Faculty’s Prof Corlia van Heerden (Incumbent Chair), Prof André Boraine (Dean) and Prof Stefan van Eck (Head of the Department of Mercantile Law) to discuss the launch of this Chair in conjunction with the Chair in Actuarial Science in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences to be confirmed during February 2014.
