Position, academic & professional qualifications
Professor Piet Delport is a professor in the Department Mercantile Law and holds the degrees LLB, LLD (Pret), H DipTax Law (Wits). The title of his LLD thesis is “Die Verkryging van Kapitaal in die Suid-Afrikaanse Maatskappyereg, met spesifieke verwysing na die Aanbod van Aandele aan die Publiek (The Acquisition of Capital in the South African Company Law with reference to the Offer of Shares to the Public).
Academic & professional experience
He joined the Department of (then) Mercantile and Labour Law as lecturer in 1981 and was promoted to senior lecturer in 1982. In 1984 he was promoted to associate professor and to professor in 1988. He is presently member of the Companies Tribunal in terms of the Companies Act 71 of 2008
Teaching activities
He teaches Securities Law (LOC 410) (an elective in the LLB programme) and Company Law (MKR 812), Securities Law (LRR 802) and International Take-overs and Reorganisations (TOR 802) on the LLM (Corporate Law) programme.
