UP taxonomist and leading expert in dung beetles occurring in southern Africa Christian Deschodt was contacted by researchers to help describe a dung beetle they suspected was a new species.

The 53-year long database (including 43 years of individual sighting histories) is one of the longest uninterrupted datasets in the world on any marine mammal, and provides critical information on the southern right whale population.
