The [email protected] research group is part of the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences. The group is divided into the Fruit Tree Irrigation Research (FTIR) team and the Mine Water Irrigation Research (MWIR) team.

The two teams are made up of a diverse group of experienced and young scientists with expertise in Horticulture, Ecophysiology, Crop-Soil-Water Modelling, Soil Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Agronomy.

The research conducted by the Irrigation @UP group is primarily aimed at protecting our natural resources and promoting the use of these resources in an economically beneficial way.

The group has been involved in numerous government and industry funded projects, with several notable research outputs including the South African Water Quality Guidelines for Irrigation Decision Support System, as well as the Technical Guidelines for Irrigation with mine water.

The Irrigation Research group has also published numerous works in internationally recognized publications.
