House Humanities Executive Committee 2019/20

House Humanities is a Faculty House that falls under the Department of Student Affairs. Structures under the DSA are responsible for planning events that ensure a successful Student Life Experience for the student body of the University of Pretoria.  

We would like to introduce this year’s House Humanities Executive Committee, which is comprised of a talented, creative and intelligent group of 8 student leaders focused on creating the best student life experience.

 

Patrick Baloyi - Marketing and Webmaster

Patrick Baloyi is a poet and a motivational speaker. He is focused on critical consciousness. He loves nature and cooking.

Patrick is currently enrolled in his second year of Bachelor of Social Work and aspires to be a clinal psychologist as well as work in clinical social work. He wants to do research and write articles on how to combat mental and emotional issues.

Patrick enjoys romantic and animated movies. He also enjoys a variety of music genres.

His values include Love, Respect, Creativity, Adventure and Open-mindedness.

 

Ontshiametse Tlhopane - Transformation

Ontshiametse is bubbly and charming. She speaks multiple languages and loves people. She enjoys acting and participates in theater productions. She is very creative. She writes short stories and is an aspiring Youtuber.

She is currently enrolled for her second year in BA General. She aspires to be a forensic criminologist, particularly in crimes involving women and children. Ontshiametse wants to establish a centre for children from abusive and unconducive homes to escape to for life skills and skills development.   

Ontshi values God, Music, Poetry Growth and Friendship.

 

Darren Smith – Sports

Darren Smith is a Harry Potter fanatic. He is quiet and intelligent and currently enrolled in his 3rd year of BA Law. His career ambition is to be an attorney. He wants to use his law degree to help people. He could do this by starting his own law firm and doing lots of pro bono work, while focusing on Human Rights and Constitutional Law. As a civil servant, Darren wants to change the way people see lawyers as pillars of social justice.

Darren was born with hazel eyes that shift between green and blue depending on his surroundings. He plays piano and loves 90’s music.

He values Faith, Love, Passion, Togetherness and Desire.

 

Botlhale Mashishi – Socials and Networking

Botlhale Mashishi is motivational and energetic. She enjoys inspiring others to embrace their flaws and fight the things that hinder their development. She has a podcast where she speaks about mental health and religion.

Botlhale is doing her second year in BA General and her career goal is to be a clinical psychologist and to establish a clinic that helps people medically tackle mental health disorders.

Botlhale loves to cook and bake and her favourite treat is red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. She is obsessed with South African history and visits museums in her free time.

Her values are Humility, Honestly, Integrity, Service and Compassion.   

 

Tebogo Nkosi – Community Engagement

Tebogo is a creative soul. She enjoys drawing and loves colour and art. She is a public speaker and enjoys helping others.

Tebogo is enrolled in her second year of BA General and she aspires to be an archaeobotanical archaeologist. She will focus on the preservation of plant evidence from archaeological sites to interpret the past relations between humans and plants.

Tebogo loves colour and refuses to sleep in a room with empty walls. Some of her hobbies include camping, hiking, art expo tours, horse riding and exotic excavations and watching The Vampire Diaries.

Her values are Passion, Motivation, Innovation, Creativity and Open-mindedness.

 

Lethuxolo Mathibela – Academics

Lethuxolo is a make-up enthusiast and she loves trying out new recipes in her free time. Her pet peeves include people who chew loudly and people who don’t refill the ice tray.

Lethu is currently doing her final year of BA General and she is majoring in Psychology and Criminology. Her career aspirations are in the forensic criminology or neuropsychology. She also wants to go into the beauty and make-up industry.

Lethu values Prayer, Kindness, Laughter and Hard work.  

 

Khomotso Shibe Marutla – Treasurer & Secretary

Khomotso is goofball and a quirky corgi lover. She writes fiction, and watches Anime and Netflix in her free time. She aspires to run a successful travel blog and rule the world.

She is currently doing her final year of BA General and her career goal is to be a museum curator, where she will be in charge of the acquisition and preservation of museum artefacts, as well as authenticating age and origins of museum pieces.

Her values include Compassion, Inspiration, Love and being Opinionated.

 

Lorrainga Mothokwa – Chairperson

Lorrainga loves to model and be in front of the camera. She loves to bake and is a total foodie. She speaks multiple languages including English, German, Sotho, French, Afrikaans and Spanish.

She is currently doing her final year of BPolSci International Studies and her career goal is to go into diplomacy and foreign affairs. This is her second term House Humanities and she served as Socials and Networking in 2018/19. Lorrainga sits on the Student Representative Council (SRC) as Ex-Officio Academics.

Lorrainga hopes to travel to Europe and South America. She enjoys sci-fi action movies and series and she writes romance narratives and poetry.

She values Music, Art, Food, Education and Love.  

 

Dr Mpho Tshivase – House Guardian

Dr T is a hardworking and cheerful philosopher who loves working with students. She is a dedicated academic. She is a busy bee who makes time for students when they need her.

When she’s not busy fulfilling her professional duties, you might find her travelling, gardening, reading novels, baking or making delicious stew. Orchids, roses, tulips and lilies will always make her heart smile.

She cherishes love, self-care, self-knowledge and self-respect as values that guide how one relates with others.

Be kind to yourself, it won’t cost a thing.
