Van der Burgh, who had some health problems in the first leg of the Mare Nostrum series in Monaco, swam to silver in the 100m breaststroke on Day 1 finals as well as a silver in the 50m Breast on day 2 in Canet-en-Roussillon.
Brazil’s Felipe Franca da Silva came out on top in a very tight men’s 100 breast final that saw all eight swimmers in the A final finish within a second of each other. Franca da Silva touched 1st in 1:00.11 just ahead of Cameron van der Burgh (1:00.26) of South Africa and Anton Chupkov (1:00.38) of Russia.
On Day 2 van der Burgh’s silver was sealed with a swim of 27.44 as Brazil’s Felipe Franca da Silva won in 27.18
The next and last leg of the Mare Nostrum Series will take place in Barcelona from 11 – 12 June.
