It just gets better and better for South African athletics… Akani Simbine, hpc sponsored sprinter has joined housemate Henricho Bruintjies as national 100-metre record holder by winning the gold medal in a stunning time of 9.97sec at the World Student Games in Gwangju, South Korea just an hour ago, Thursday 9 July.
Bruintjies had set the new mark in Switzerland just four days ago.

Earlier in the day Simbine had broken a 28-year-old World University record with his 10sec dead in the semi-finals.   All of which means is that in the space of an hour and 39 minutes, Simbine set a global university record and a South African record.
