Akani won his 100m in a time of 10.09 and qualified for World's

Akani Simbine, hpc sponsored athlete clocked 10.09 to win the 100m in the second best time of his career. His best is 10.02 seconds.

AKANI Simbine qualified for World’s at the University Sports South Africa Athletics (USSA) Championship in Stellenbosch South Africa over the weekend.

The championship was used to select the provisional South African team to the World University Games (FISU) due in Gwangji South Korea from 03-14 July. In all 27 men and six women attained the qualifiers for FISU.

This championship capped eight days of intense competition at the University of Stellenbosch’s Coetzenburg Stadium. First up was the South Africa Senior National Championships from 17-18 April. Then the Varsity Cup on 20 April.  Finally the USSA championships from 24-25 April.

Akani Simbine bounced back from the hamstring injury that cut his season last year winning 100m in 10.09 seconds. This is an improved championships mark from the 10.12 by Mathew Quinn in 1999. He later won the 200m in 20.51.
