The hpc sponsored athletes Lebogang Shange, Akani Simbine, LJ van Zyl, Wenda Nel and Orazio Cremona all took gold in their respective events, while Duwayne Boer took silver in the men’s long jump and PC Beneke bronze in 400m H.
Lebogang Shange proved on Saturday by winning the 20km race walk at the SA Championships in Stellenbosch that there is still no stopping as he set another first with his winning time of 1 hours and 23 minutes.
Akani Simbine’s final was contested in a slight headwind of 2.1 metres per second. He won the 100m in 10.25 seconds, with Roscoe Engel second in 10.43s and Emile Erasmus third in 10.66s.
LJ van Zyl, qualified for the World Championships for a fourth time in a winning time of 49.29s in the 400-hurdles while PC Beneke finished third in 50.17s. It was the 7th time that Van Zyl won the SA title. LJ and PC’s team also took gold in 4 x 400m Relay in 3:10.11.
Wenda Nel won the 400-hurdles for women in 55.27s, again qualifying for the World Championships. Wenda and her team mates took gold in the 4 x 400m Relay in 3:35.57.
Orazio Cremona also qualified for the World Championships by winning the shot put with a distance of 20.49m.
Duwayne Boer finished in 2nd place in the men’s long jump with a jump of 7.80.
