On the first day of the South African National Championships at the King’s Park Swimming Pool Complex Emily Gray won the 100 backstroke for disabled swimmers (S1-S13) in a time of 1:17.17. In doing so she qualified for the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland in July.’
On Monday swimming against the able bodies she also qualified for the World Championships in the 400m freestyle in a time of 4:57.55.
Cameron van der Burgh also Tuks/hpc got his first world championship qualification out of the way in the semi-final of the 100m breastroke when on Monday evening he touched the wall in a time of 1:00.30.
Although Karin Prinsloo (Tuks/hpc) was victorious in the 400m freestyle final her winning time of 4:12.55 she did not qualify for the Fina World Long Course Championships in Kazan, Russia. She won her heat this morning (Tuesday) in a time of 1:03.36 and will be swimming the semi-final tonight. The final is tomorrow night (Wednesday).
