All eyes were on sprinter Akani Simbine, who did not disappoint as he stormed to victory in the men's 100m in a time of 10.09 seconds.
Duwayne Boer claimed first place with a 15.59 metres leap in the men’s triple jump event.
In the men’s 4 x 100 metre relay, Akani Simbine and his team mates claimed first place for Tuks ahead of UJ in second and Kovsies in third.
Akani Simbine was crowned Victor Ladorum for the event.
The second of two legs in the Varsity Athletics campaign will be held in Stellenbosch on April 20.
