Ladies Gauteng President Les Rule reports.
“Our match play got under way on Tuesday morning with a field of 16 in the A Division, an A Division Flight of 8 and 8 in the B Division and The Pro Shop very generously sponsored our match play
“Once again the weather played its part, another beautiful autumn day in Gauteng. Glendower was looking stunning and Mike, the green keeper had been really kind to the A Division players and moved them back onto the ladies tee boxes which made the course challenging for them.
“There were some very exciting matches and I think the biggest 'shock' was Bonita Bredenhann beating Kim Williams 5/4 in the first round to avenge her defeat in the final of the 2010 SA Match Play final at Port Elizabeth.
“Zwartkops’, 15-year-old Magda Kruger, took on Nobuhle Dlamini in the semi’s this morning. She kept Nobuhle at bay for 17 holes, coming in to the 18th one down. But typically, Nobuhle put her second shot three inches from the hole, winning the match two up.
“The final was an international final between Swaziland and Namibia while the flight and B Division were an all-Gauteng affair.
“I had the pleasure of walking with the final A Division match. What amazing golf to watch, both Bonita and Nobuhle were outstanding - real tough competitors - but Nobuhle certainly had the edge. She had a 300m drive on the first hole, leaving 35m in to the green. She eagled the par five second hole, having put her second shot over the back of the green. She then birdied the sixth hole, slotted a 50 ft put to save par and halve the seventh hole. She turned two up and then proceeded to birdie the 10th and 11th, having driven pin high in the right bunker. She eventually won 3/2 but what amazing golf from both girls and played in good spirit."
