Assistance with historic debt

To assist students who have outstanding debt, and to address the shortfall in NSFAS funding, the University is making funding available in the form of UNIPTA and UP Managed loans.  All students who applied and qualified for NSFAS in 2015 but were not assisted or not assisted sufficiently, will be assisted with UNIPTA funding, subject to the NSFAS criteria being met.

Amongst other criteria, students considered for these loans must have applied for financial aid and must meet the financial means test criteria. Students who have applied for study finance, with a GPA of at least 40%, will be considered for UNIPTA loans, provided they are SA citizens.

To define students requiring financial assistance, the University will use the NSFAS funding framework as a guideline. Students who submit motivations must also apply online for financial assistance 2016 at www.up.ac.za/feesfunding. No motivation will be considered without an application.

Qualifying students will be notified via sms, and they then need to submit completed Loan Agreement forms at the Student Service Centre.

Students who do not meet the conditions for these loans, and those who qualify but cannot be assisted within the limited funding available, must make payment arrangements with the student account consultants at the Student Service Centre.
