3D printer to enhance undergraduate teaching in health sciences at UNAM

Posted on February 24, 2022

On 28 January 2022, the University of Namibia (UNAM) hosted management and other stakeholders at the launch of their 3D printer. The machine has been purchased as part of the DIRISANA+ project, a collaboration between various universities to improve health professional education in southern Africa. At present, UNAM and Welwitchia Health Training Centre are the two partner institutions in Namibia.

The printer is intended to create models to support teaching and learning in subjects such as anatomy, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and dentistry. In this way students can interact with the 3D model and have further discussions in learning.

Build Volume was present to provide training to UNAM staff on operating the 3D printer. One graduate from NUST, two from Welwitchia Health Training Centre, and two UNAM staff, were trained in designing the 3D models.
