About us

Dirisana+ is an EU co-funded capacity building project in Higher Education aimed at improving health sciences education in southern Africa. The project falls under the national priority of “knowledge triangle, innovation” and reinforces links between education, research and business, as a means to further develop the higher education sector within our society at large.

An efficient knowledge triangle implies a much enhanced, constantly evolving and sustainable knowledge base that could be quickly translated into innovative approaches and methods. All three aspects of the triangle should continuously interact: research with education, research with innovation and education with innovation, to improve the impact and sustainability of the three activities. In this project various teaching strategies will be introduced as research studies with clear goals, appropriate methods and critical reflexion.

The aim of our project is to provide a culturally-responsive quality health and science education founded on evidence-based research and directed at enabling students to address the needs of the individual, the family, the community, and the population, despite numerous resource constraints in Africa. This involves, but is not limited to, the training of our staff in health professions education through advanced degrees and online courses, use of advanced technologies both in and outside the classroom, re-evaluation of our curricula, and in assessing the knowledge, attitudes, perceptions and competencies of our students in an ever-changing academic and global environment.
