Future Africa Campus hosts orientation for new students

The information session for the new residents at Future Africa took place at the Future Africa Campus Hub (Dining Hall) on 11 April 2022. It was similar to the former University of Pretoria (UP) open days and presented as an informal exhibition space and provided an opportunity to better inform the new residents of the support services available to postgraduate students.

The table was set with some flowers and lots of easter eggs and there was a UP branded DLS banner provided by the marketing team, which made the DLS table stand out beautifully. As the eager students enquired, the team got to enjoy vibrant conversations with students from various disciplines who were extremely broad-minded and open to sharing their experiences and knowledge. It was a fun day with lots of pictures taken with students posing with the DLS poster. We would like to thank the DLS marketing team for their support in this regard.

Together with the entertaining conversations, students were informed of the multiple resources and tools that UP provides for them. It was pleasing to know that the students took the advice given to them as there were several follow-up emails sent, directed to different Faculty Information Specialists the very next day.
It was a great opportunity and an amazing learning experience to see and collaborate with the new student residents of the Future Africa Campus.

As for the venue and food provided, which was provided by the Future Africa chef and his team. It was a wonderful spread of light meals and a variety of beverages, which was much appreciated and enjoyed by all at the event.

Amelia Cilliers, the event organiser, ensured that the event ran smoothly and was enjoyed by all. She also arranged t-shirts as a lovely souvenir to remember this day. Besides the DLS, other departments including the SRC & Security services, Health & Wellness, OHS, Tuks Sports, and UP memorabilia store were present as well. All informing the new Future Africa residents of the services available to them.

We look forward to being present in other programmes for these students and providing them with more resources and skills to face the challenges of the future.
