The University of Pretoria (UP) Department of Library Services (DLS) presented a Copyright Compliance Awareness lunch-hour session at the beginning of November 2021. The content was repeated over three consecutive lunch-hour sessions, on 2, 3 and 4 November from 13:00 to 14:00, allowing lecturers to attend whichever session suited them best.
The session included a presentation by the UP Copyright officer, Ms Zama Khanyile, on the most frequently asked questions. Included in her presentation were the following questions:
This was followed by a presentation by information specialist Mr Lubabalo Booi from the O.R. Tambo Law Library on the Library Reference Page (LRP). The LRP is a template that can be populated by an information specialist to suit a lecturer’s needs, and can then be uploaded to ClickUP to make learning material available to students in this manner. If lecturers request information specialists to prepare LRPs for them in good time, having supplied the reading list in advance, and not having exceeded 10% of a specific resource in prescribing material, then information specialists can prepare LRPs for the lecturers according to the standard set by the library―and that includes having checked that copyright compliance is being observed.
The session was arranged in part to allow lecturers time and opportunity to ask whatever copyright-related questions they might have. During the sessions, most of the questions were directed to the copyright officer, as was expected. The DLS has managed to record all three sessions, and these will be made available from the Copyright subject guide: https://up-za.libguides.com/c.php?g=615261
Ms Khanyile will proceed to update the subject guide with useful information in answer to the questions that were raised during the sessions and any that might be forthcoming. Any questions, requests and/or comments may be directed to her at [email protected].
