#Give70for70 book donation from Exclusive Books

The University of Pretoria’s (UP) Department of Library Services has had the fortune of receiving a #Give70for70 donation from Exclusive Books!

In celebration of its 70th birthday in 2021, Exclusive Books (EB) in South Africa decided to give the gift of 70 books each to 70 non-profit organisations in the country. The bookstore invited nominations from its customers by means of online advertising.

Having been informed of this wonderful opportunity by Professor Molly Brown (department of English), the Marketing Office, together with Ms Adrienne Warricker, the librarian responsible for the Language departments, her colleagues and various other supportive academics, staff and students attempted to collect enough nominations for the University of Pretoria Book Nook that is in the process of being planned and set up.

For some time, nothing was heard about the donations, prompting us to conclude that we did not manage to gather enough nominations. However, to our great delight, Ms Ronel Kelso from EB’s marketing department contacted us in August, asked about our audience for the Book Nook. Within the week, we were grateful to have received two boxes filled with non-fiction on various topics, as well as various fiction titles for our Book Nook.

It is heart-warming that staff, students and colleagues cared enough to nominate us. We sincerely hope that our Book Nook will make proud everyone who contributed (in way)!

The Book Nook furniture for the Merensky 2 Library’s Book Nook is in the process of being delivered, and the donated books are in the process of being catalogued. We’re overjoyed to have progressed to this point! We hope to create Book Nooks in each branch of the UP Libraries, if possible, to support a culture of reading.
