Social Media Insights May to August 2021

Posted on August 27, 2021

Since May, the Department of Library Service’s (DLS) social media team has introduced some exciting new content for users to enjoy, interact with, and from which to learn more about the library services and collections. These included our on-going #UPisLit series of one-minute book reviews, monthly published InstaNovels, and weekly #StudyBreakQuiz challenges.

We also hosted some wonderful online dog therapy sessions and ran an exciting competition with Elsevier that saw two UP students win some great prizes!

Throughout the four months, we worked tirelessly at continuing to provide useful and insightful content about the services of the virtual library, to help students cope with studying during the COVID-19 pandemic. This included the continuation of our regular series that raise awareness of the library’s services and collection, such as #UseYourLibrary, #eResources, #BookoftheWeek and #ResearchTipoftheWeek.

We did this in some new ways too, most notably by introducing lists of books recommended from our library for celebrating important dates, such as South African Women’s Day and International Pride Month.

Our most wonderful resource is still, of course, our fantastic staff members, who we celebrated, welcomed, grieved and bade farewell too throughout the last four months.

Some of more engaging series continued as well, such as #ThisDayinHistory, #MondayMotivation, #jigswapuzzle and #CelebrateSAWriters posts.

If you aren’t following us yet, make sure to check us out on Facebook (UP Library Services), Instagram (@uplibrary) and/or Twitter (@UPLibrary), so that you don’t miss out!
