Congratulations to the following staff members who has recently been appointed as Faculty Library Managers:-
Ms Clara Ngobeni has recently been appointed as the Education Library's Faculty Library Manager. The DLS welcomes her appointment!
Here are a few questions she has answered in order to get to know her better.
1. What led you to this career?
Curiosity about librarianship as a profession. The first time I entered a library was during teacher training college. I was fascinated by the layout, the books and the fact that people learn to run such institutions. It was love at first sight! It was a bonus that I could combine librarianship with all the other Education subjects that I did.
2. What energizes you at work?
Positive and ambitious people.
3. If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?
I would love to be a magician, that way I would make things happen at the pace which I want.
4. What’s a trip that changed you, and why?
I took a road trip to Plettenberg. The long drive made me value the scenery, landscapes and the overall beauty of our country more.
5. If you could only have three apps on your smartphone, which would you pick?
Google Maps, Candy Crush and my banking app.
6. What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?
Cricket! I root for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)!
Ms Viveka Pillai has been appointed to the position of Faculty Library Manager for Humanities and Theology. Viveka was an information specialist within the Humanities team. She joined the management team with vast knowledge and experience of working in Academic, Research and in Public Libraries as well.
Although she has been at the DLS for some time, we have asked her a few questions about herself to get to know her a bit more!
1. What behaviour or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
Optimism.
I am an optimist and tend to get through the worst of times by believing better is yet to come. I face
challenges head on and see my failures as opportunities to learn. Currently, it is hard to remain optimistic about the future, but it is possible to look on the bright side and cultivate positivity.
2. What was your first job?
I was a library assistant, at the Ballito Public Library on the Dolphin Coast in Kwa- Zulu Natal. My duties
involved shelving, creating library displays, issuing books and returning of books. I worked there for 3 years
and I still keep in touch with the colleagues that I worked with then.
3. What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I have been happily married for 20 years. We had a traditional village wedding and there were over 800 people in the venue to witness the ceremony.
4. What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
On the weekend I love going for long drives with my family. We usually end up in a coffee shop or an ice cream parlour!
5. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
I wish I could teleport.
6. What fictional place would you most like to visit?
The Shire, it is a region of J. R. R. Tolkien's fictional Middle-earth, described in The Lord of the Rings.
