It is important, now more than ever, to showcase the products and services of the Department of Library Services (DLS) and the crucial value added by its staff members.
The DLS has recently launched three new products for University of Pretoria staff, students and prospective students which showcase the services we offer to the University community.
- Our Annual Review is one way of showcasing the significant value that the library contributes to the lives of University of Pretoria staff and students. Our Annual Review provides detailed information on the library’s performance and achievements in the past year and promotes our department. The DLS published its 2020 Annual Review to the library website on 21 April 2021: http://www.library.up.ac.za/aboutus/docs/review2020.pdf
- The DLS’ Marketing and Quality Office also publishes a two-pager print-ready statistical document titled “The Department of Library Services at a glance” in order to highlight the quality of services offered by library staff. The goal of this document is to provide a complete record of the statistical activity of a given year, which can be printed or disseminated electronically if needed. This year’s version captures the essence of the unusual effects of the COVID19 pandemic, detailing statistically how the pandemic affected DLS activities and engagements throughout 2020. These two documents contribute towards our overall image as a library. They also enhance perceptions about the important roles our librarians play in the general University community.
- Last, but not least, is the new video highlighting the services rendered by the DLS throughout the pandemic, which was launched on 14 May 2020: https://youtu.be/poBynOv3u78. As the pandemic has forced people to adhere to social distancing measures and participate less in face-to-face activities, more people are preferring digital content. A video that communicates our key offerings and services to both current and prospective students and staff members is a fitting marketing tool which highlights the many ways in which the DLS adapts to change. It also showcases the commitment that the DLS has to delivering quality library services, regardless of what challenges library staff are faced with.
We are proud of our new marketing tools and we hope that our patrons will disseminate them to showcase our valuable contributions to the University community.
