The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:

The Cape Town guide (illustrated): containing information of every character for visitors and residents, including guides to all points of interest in and around Cape Town, description of buildings, suburbs ... by Dennis Edwards.

From the preface of our 1897 edition: “The very favourable reception accorded to the first edition of the Cape Town Guide has induced the publishers to re-issue it with such additional information as might prove useful to Visitors, and others, who wish to become thoroughly acquainted with Cape Town and its suburbs. Several illustrations of scenery and buildings have been added, and the book has been brought "up-to-date" as much as possible.”
