Posted on January 01, 2020

The Health Sciences Faculty Library had the pleasure of hosting the 2019 year end function held on t 29 November 2019 at Future Africa, Hillcrest Campus. During this prestigious event, the Department of Library Services community bid farewell to their Library Director, Mr Robert Moropa.

Mr Moropa had been the DLS Director since 2006.  He had contributed to the growth of the Library and Information profession for 41 years.

He has also served as the LIASA President from 2002 to 2004, as well as Vice-Chair of SANLiC when it was founded.

In the year of his retirement he was also designated the Executive Librarian of the year.

The year end function was graced by colleagues, family and his favourite soccer team, Kaizer Chiefs. The Kaizer Chief Marketing team not only surprised him with their presence but also came bearing gifts.

In his farewell message, Mr Moropa expressed his gratitude for the spectacular and special event.

“To be honoured by one's colleagues in front of one's family members, in the manner in which you honoured me on Friday is truly inspiring and at the same time indescribable. I am certain that I am the envy of many of my counterparts. You have made me feel so special. I appreciate it greatly, colleagues - I truly do.”

Thank you Mr Moropa for being a mentor, a coach, a friend and most of all a Leader who continuously took us from strength to strength. We wish you all the best in the new chapter of your life.

Enjoy your retirement.
