The Austrian Embassy has once again very kindly donated brand new German language books to the University of Pretoria’s Department of Library Services (DLIS).
Mr Fabian Ortner, Austrian cultural attaché, handed over the new titles to Library Director Mr Robert Moropa at a formal handover function in the Merensky 2 Library on 4 June 2019. This is the seventh consecutive year that support in the form of new library material has been received from the Austrian Embassy to the German language programmes run in the University of Pretoria's Ancient and Modern Languages and Cultures (AMLC) Department.
The event was attended by representatives from the AMLC Department, the Embassy and the DLIS.
Professor Stephan Mühr, lecturer in German in the AMLC Department, was invited to provide book titles that would be regarded as useful to be included in the UP library collection. Two of the titles donated to the library this year feature historical German-African interaction. Titles we’ve received over the past few years include new fiction by Austrian authors, as well as a number of non-fiction works.
After meeting with Isak van der Walt and Libby, the library’s brand new service robot, Mr Ortner went on a tour of the Makerspace.
