Coping/not coping: the Research Commons understands

Posted on September 01, 2019

The Research Commons has recently completed yet another successful workshop. In collaboration with the Student Counselling Unit, the Stress and Time Management workshop was held on 27 August 2019 at the Merensky 2 Library, Hatfield Campus.

As we know all too well at the Research Commons, postgraduate studies can be a challenging experience. It is easy to feel overwhelmed in the face of research, employment, family and other demands. The purpose of this workshop was to provide our postgraduate students with tools for managing and better utilizing their time amidst a busy schedule. This workshop also provided a positive approach to stress – what it is, why we need it, and what to do with too much stress – providing strategies to better cope with the physical and psychological demands of postgraduate studies.

The Research Commons would like to thank our lovely and capable speakers and intern counselling psychologists at the University of Pretoria, Ms Vickashnee Nair and Ms Michelle Nel for giving their time and expertise to support our postgraduate students’ wellbeing. We would also like to extend our thanks to Ms Ruqayya Seedat and Dr Linda ME Blokland for helping to make this workshop possible.
