ENGAGE (Engineering Augmented Degree Programme) EBIT Faculty

Against the background of global warming the urgent need to live sustainable lives is emphasized world wide. Apart from international and national plans being rolled out, sustainable living should also be practised by individuals who actively apply the practices of re-using, reducing and recycling. Engineers of the future, as ENGAGE students, are required from their first year of engineering studies to promote and apply these practices in their everyday as well as their academic lives.

As a member of a GoGreen team in Professional Orientation (JPO 120) you are given the opportunity to design a community-based project, product or game, as proof to fellow students and lecturers in JPO 120 of your team’s implementation of the practices of re-using, reducing and recycling in a hands-on way. Additionally, the team is required to either run the practical project or demonstrate the project, product or game in a workshop to members of the community in a setting identified by your team (e.g. at home in your community, in your current residential area, at your former high/primary school, at the local nursery school or church).

The threefold purpose of this is:

•           to teach others to continue to use the community-based project, product or game,

•           to create awareness of“Going Green”, by reducing, re-using and recycling,

•           to make a visible contribution to “Going Green” by reducing, re-using and recycling
