Soft toy Christmas project

Posted on September 01, 2018

During November and December 2018 soft toys and books were donated by the Department of Library Services (DLS) staff members in collaboration with the Health Sciences staff based in Kalafong hospital.

The purpose of this drive was simply to bring joy to children in hospital during the Christmas season at a time when they were not at their best of health and away from their families. We hoped that the soft toys would be cuddled and hugged and that they would provide some emotional comfort while the children were on the road to recovery.

The DLS supports and promotes “Good health and well-being”, not only through the provision of information and research (SDG 3), but also by caring enough to make a difference in someone’s life.

Most of the soft toys were handed out at Kalafong Tertiary Hospital on the 18 December 2018 by Lindiwe Soyizwapi, Kabelo Nzima, Una Mgwenya and Prof Nicolette du Plessis from the Faculty. Prof Du Plessis was planning to hand out the remaining toys on Christmas day.

We would like to thank all our colleagues who donated soft toys. The project was a success and we hope to continue it in 2019!
