Austrian Embassy again donated generously to UP Libraries on 10 May 2017

Posted on August 01, 2017

The Merensky 2 library received a gift of brand new German language books, donated to the University of Pretoria (UP) libraries by the Austrian Embassy in South Africa. Support to the German language programmes run in the university's Modern European Languages (MEL) Department in the form of new library material has been gratefully received from the Austrian Embassy over the past years, and has always been most welcome.

During this past semester, we again saw the official handover of new German language titles taking place in the Merensky2 library. Mr Robert Moropa, Director of the Department of Library Services, was present to receive the donation from Mr Matthias Radosztics, the Austrian Embassy Deputy Head of Mission.

The MEL Department was represented by Professor Rada Tirvassen (head of the department), Professor Stephan Mühr and Dr Angelika Weber. Library staff members supporting the Humanities Faculty and the specific Department's study and research needs also joined the happy event. Present from the library's side were Ms Hilda Kriel, Deputy Director in the Department of Library Services, Ms Marieta Buys, the Head of the Humanities Faculty Library, Ms Elsabe Olivier, Assistant Director: Marketing and Quality Assurance in the Library, and Ms Adrienne Warricker, subject librarian for the Modern European Languages Department at the University of Pretoria.

The Austrian Embassy donated on various occasions before, the most recent donation having been received in 2016. Professor Stephan Mühr from the German language unit says that they are usually asked for a wish list beforehand, and are often delighted to receive a substantial number of titles they had suggested.

The UP greatly values outside partnerships and assistance that help it serve its academic community better!
