On 4 August, the Dr Beth le Roux of the Department of Information Science brought the second-year BIS Publishing students to visit #UPSpecialCollections to view some of our oldest books and books with special bindings. The students are learning about the history of book design and production, and we have some great examples in the collection, including the Summa Angelica de Casibus Conscientiae printed in 1491; a copy of the "Breechers Bible" from 1608; a facsimile copy of the Gutenberg Bible; and a variety of bindings ranging from leather and snake skin to ox hide (with hair!).
