The University of Pretoria (UP) has launched its newly revamped Teaching and Learning webpage, with a fresh design and easier navigation. This mobile-friendly platform is designed to make resources, policies and success stories easier to find and engage with. The update forms part of UP’s digital transformation strategy, which focuses on integrating technology to enhance teaching quality, accessibility and innovation.

“This updated page is more than just a digital refresh – it’s a strategic tool that aligns with UP’s digital transformation vision,” said Professor Loretta Feris, UP Vice-Principal: Academic. “It gives our academic community a central, accessible hub for resources, innovation and collaboration, enabling us to elevate teaching excellence and prepare our graduates for a rapidly changing world.”

The refreshed design features a clean, visually engaging layout with intuitive navigation, streamlined menus and clear content groupings. This makes it faster for staff and students to access key information, such as the Teach THE UP Wayframework, faculty resources, academic success guides, policy updates and student support tools. 

The page also showcases UP’s leadership in hybrid and blended learning, including the integration of Blackboard Ultra’s artificial intelligence (AI) features as well as frameworks for responsible AI use. Professional development opportunities such as Scholarship of Teaching and Learning grants, AI literacy training and communities of practice are highlighted, reflecting UP’s investment in preparing graduates for an AI-enhanced, globally connected world.

“By bringing together frameworks, success stories and opportunities to engage, this page empowers lecturers and students alike,” says Prof Gerrit Stols, Director: Education Innovation. “It showcases the depth of our teaching expertise while providing practical tools to implement new ideas, drive innovation and strengthen our shared culture of academic excellence.”

Staff and students are invited to engage with the Teaching Matters section by contributing case studies, sharing innovations and celebrating achievements, further enhancing collaboration and cross-faculty learning. Inspiring examples of student success and academic excellence further demonstrate the transformative impact of UP’s teaching and learning initiatives.

The design follows accessibility best practices, using plain-language summaries, clear headings and mobile optimisation to ensure information is usable on any device.
