#Assupol TuksCricket: Tuks are back to their title-winning best

Posted on February 02, 2017

Count us in. We are here to retain our title. This was the message from Tuks on Wednesday morning when they easily defeated UCT by 102 runs at the Ibbies Oval in Potchefstroom.

For the chaps from Pretoria this was a must-win match, after they lost to UWC on Tuesday, and were in danger of failing to reach the playoffs.

Tuks lost both opening batsmen within the first two overs, however their innings did not derail with these early setbacks.

Tony de Zorzi (62 from 43 balls) and Thomas Kaber (78 from 48 balls) stabilised the innings after the departure of the two openers. They put on 145 runs for the third wicket and kept Tuks’ title dreams in safe waters.

Spectators were treated to spectacular hitting by De Zorzi and Kaber. They showed no respect or mercy to the bowlers of UCT, hitting them to every corner of the field.

Even after both lost their wickets in quick succession, Tuks had done enough to secure a massive total.
Tuks finished on 216/6 in their 20 overs, giving UCT the massive task to score at 10.8 runs at the over.
This task proved to be impossible from the lads from Cape Town, as they only managed 114/7 in their 20 overs with only Dylan Beavan providing any sort of resistance with his unbeaten 39.

A mixture of a pumped up performance by Tuks in the field and bad shot selection by the batsmen from UCT were the cause of the Capetonians’ downfall.

FNB Best Bowler: Thomas Kaber (Tuks)
